Training for any competition is all about digging. Digging into your mind and soul to have questions you may have concerning your abilities answered. This digging may cause you to confront fears of what the eventual answer to those questions turns out to be. Making sure you dig deep enough physically to rise above those you are competing against.
Digging into your personal relationships. Asking of those around you who are the pillars of your existence to help you out more than the norm. Things like having the right meal ready for the exact hour of the day, and having all the workout gear washed and ready. Allowing you to get those few more precious minutes of sleep instead of mowing the lawn.
Asking your training partner to dig a little deeper by not let you give up so soon on the last set of pull ups. Making him stay a little longer during a session to make sure your receiving position for the snatch is most optimum. Screaming at you not rest so long in the heat of the battle.
The last thing you want entering your mind just before competing, is "did I prepare as well as I could have?" "Did I get the most out of every training opportunity to get better, stronger, fitter?" If you did all the work before hand, the competition is only a stage in which all that is played out is a forgone conclusion. If the digging was done, the rest is gravy. So, those that are part of this journey with me for the next few weeks, those within earshot of my voice and want to be a part of this opportunity bestowed upon me and our facility...I suggest you grab a shovel.
Best of luck Paul! You are and continue to be an inspiration and a leader to the whole CFEC team. Let me know if you need any help in the "Screaming at you to not rest so long in the heat of the battle" area.
